The final day of the mission is upon us. In the span of four days, the team worked up 40 cases that included 47 procedures. We couldn't have done it without the support of our hosts at Aichi hospital, especially the OT staff. Before the long journey home, we have a surgical seminar at East West. Very proud of the work done during this 22nd mission which demonstrates the positive impact a group of like minded people can have on the world - one smile at a time.

We're happy to share that patients that have undergone surgeries this week so far are doing great! Tomorrow, we'll be rounding on today's cases which included 8 palates and 2 lip repairs. Another 12 hour day but that does not thwart the team's efforts to continue on to the last day of surgery. With the support of the amazing staff and facility at Aichi Hospital, the mission is rolling along! Another day and 12 more primary cleft lips repaired! The team continues to work long hours and tomorrow promises nothing less. Ten more surgeries are awaiting but there is truly nothing more fulfilling than helping these children. Mission 22 is off to a great start! Our first day of surgery was incredibly productive as the team completed 4 lip repairs and 10 palate repairs. It was a very long 14-hour day but the team worked hard and is using the momentum to gear up for tomorrow's cases. There are 12 lips repairs that have already been scheduled! Smile Bangladesh's 22nd mission is underway and is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Lynn Speer. She epitomized all that is good in humanity. Lynn’s spirit lives with us with every child we treat and every lip or palate we repair. Learn more about Lynn here. This year's campus is at Aichi Hospital in Uttara, Dhaka. The team hit the ground running to set up the operating room and to screen patients. There were about 50 children seen and almost 40 were scheduled for surgeries over the course of the next four days. Even so, more screenings are expected for tomorrow. A special thanks to our host East West University for making the camp possible. Visit our Gallery to check out more photos from the trip! |
